Large print Spider Solitaire

Quiet Hand is made to be read at arm's length, in the evening, without leaning in. Big cards are on from the start, and a few settings make the table easier still.

Large card faces

Large card faces is switched on when you first play. Each card shows a bigger rank and suit in its corner, and the face-up cards in a column are spaced further apart, so more of every card stays in view.

The cards grow to fill your window. On a laptop or desktop, making the browser full screen gives the table more height, and the cards grow with it.

A four-colour deck

In the usual deck, spades and clubs are both black and hearts and diamonds are both red. Switch on Four-colour deck and every suit has its own colour: spades stay black, hearts stay red, diamonds turn blue and clubs turn green.

It helps most in 4 Suits, where telling a spade from a club at a glance decides which runs you can move.

Left-handed mode

Left-handed mode mirrors the table. The stock moves from the left side to the right, the foundations move across to make room, and the toolbar's four buttons swap their order.

Text you can read

  • No text in the game is smaller than 15 pixels, and reading text is larger than that.
  • Every toolbar button has a word beside its icon: Undo, Hint, New Game and Menu. None is an icon alone.
  • Buttons are large enough to tap without aiming, and they stay in the same place from one game to the next.
  • Dark text on a light background in the menus, and light cards on green felt at the table, for strong contrast.

Calm motion

Cards slide gently into place. If you prefer less movement, turn on your device's reduced motion setting and Quiet Hand follows it: cards no longer fly across the table, and each change fades in quietly instead.

  • Mac: System Settings, Accessibility, Display, Reduce motion.
  • Windows: Settings, Accessibility, Visual effects, Animation effects (switch it off).
  • iPhone and iPad: Settings, Accessibility, Motion, Reduce Motion.

Sound is off to begin with. Turn it on in Settings if you like a soft card tap as you play.

Play without dragging

Dragging is not required. Click a card, or tap it on a phone or tablet, and it moves to the best place for it. The whole game can also be played from the keyboard.

Where to find these settings

Open Menu on the table, then Settings. Large card faces and Four-colour deck are under Cards; Left-handed mode and Sound are under Play. Your choices are saved in this browser and are there next time you visit.
